By BART HUBBUCH, The Times-Union Best will enter 'Pride of the Jaguars' - Boselli to be first member inducted before Oct. 8 home game against the Jets. The Jaguars gave their new Alltel Stadium honor ring a name Monday, dubbing it "Pride of the Jaguars" after an Internet fan vote. "Pride of the Jaguars won in a landslide," said Tim Connolly, the team's senior vice president of business development. "It was an easy call." Pride of the Jaguars beat out Jaguars Honor Wall, Jaguars Wall of Honor, Jaguars Ring of Pride, Legends of the Jaguars and Jaguars Ring of Honor in a vote on the team's Web site. Former Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tony Boselli, the first draft pick in team history, was chosen by owner Wayne Weaver to be the Pride of the Jaguars' first member. Boselli is set to be inducted during the Jaguars' Oct. 8 home game against the New York Jets.
Still to be worked out are the precise details of what Connolly described as "our very own hall of fame." "It's a fun project, especially for the fans," he said. "Long after these players are gone, their names are going to be up there for everyone to see. A lot of teams have these, and this is our first shot. We're excited." Connolly said the Jaguars have no timetable for selecting the Pride of the Jaguars' second member. Future selections likely will be made by a committee made up of the team's owner and head coach, he said. Connolly also said the Jaguars have just 8,500 unsold tickets combined for the entire 2006 home schedule. The Jaguars open at home vs. Dallas on Sept. 10. Any remaining single-game tickets for the regular season are expected to go on sale Aug. 25 or 26, Connolly said. Season tickets will be mailed this week. Originally created Tuesday, July 18, 2006 |

The Jaguars solicited names earlier this month and received more than 3,000 entries, Connolly said. The six finalists were chosen by the club because they were mentioned most frequently.
