JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Sidewalks and quality street lightening are being touted as basic ways to help neighborhoods fight violent crime.
Mayor John Peyton and former Jaguars player Tony Boselli proposed leveling the playing field when it comes to basic services as they both talked about neighborhood safety as part of The Jacksonville Journey.
The journey is part of the city's crime fighting plan that has business and civic leaders looking for solutions to curb violence.
Boselli, a former Jaguar offensive tackle, has agreed to tackle issues focusing on safety and stability.
Besides street lights and sidewalks, Boselli told reporters, "I think another thing is the trash problem several of the neighborhoods have."
Boselli, who will chair the neighborhood safety committee, also says its time to reopen closed community centers and make sure there are after school centers for children.
He also believes big apartment complexes have role in providing a safe environment for their tenants.
Mayor Peyton is expecting a report this spring from the five committees that make up the Jacksonville Journey. |
